ABOUT ALEC
Alec Kores has always had a strong passion for music. Melody and rhythmic feel come naturally to him along with an organic approach to harmony, orchestration, and arranging to fit an emotion when writing his own music and performing on the drums. He began his formal pursuit of music in third grade with his first piano lessons so he could join the percussion section in middle school. During elementary school try-outs for band, he was told he should play a brass instrument, but he insisted on percussion because of his desire to become a drummer. In sixth grade, he began playing percussion in concert band, which continued through college level wind symphony performances. In eighth grade, he took his first private drum set lessons, joined the jr. high jazz ensemble, and played in his first alternative rock band outside of school. His passion for jazz drumming grew through high school and his playing became more mature as the musical content became more challenging at Fargo South High School. He had the amazing opportunity to travel to Switzerland and perform with All That Jazz 7 at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2007. During high school, Alec also took his first composing courses and spent a lot of time learning and applying music theory while using music composition software. Alec went on to attend MSUM in Moorhead, MN for Music Industry and took his drumming and composing to a new level while he was there. Through MSUM programs and outside of the school, he was playing genres on drums including Big Band Jazz, Rock, EDM, Small Group Jazz, Bluegrass, Latin, and was hired to perform in theatre pit orchestras on multiple occasions. He took private drum set, percussion, and composition lessons as well as music history, music theory, arranging, conducting, and orchestration courses throughout his time at MSUM. He performed and rehearsed with many groups from 2007-2011, including Inside Out Strings and Classical Chill, and had become a professional drummer in the Fargo-Moorhead area during his time as an undergraduate. After college, Alec went to Nashville, TN for a short internship at a music booking agency called Elite Talent Agency and returned to Midwest to begin working for a music software company in the Twin Cities called MakeMusic (the makers of Finale music notation software and what was previously known as SmartMusic). During this time, he was composing music and spent three of those years performing professionally on the drums in the Twin Cities area with a wedding and corporate band called Fred Savage and the Unbeatables Wedding Band. He has continued his musical career outside of his business career in software by teaching private piano and drum set lessons and recently producing a Coldplay tribute show at TAK Music Venue in Dilworth. More now than ever, he is ready to expand his musical journey through performing in the FM area, composing new music, and teaching. He is excited to be part of the Amped Team!
