Shrek Summer Rock Band Summer Camp

Get Ready to Rock Your Ogre Out at the Fargo Street Fair!
Our Shrek Rock Band Course is perfect for young musicians aged 11-15, offering a truly unique and engaging musical adventure!

Over four fun, one-hour weekly rehearsals, held on Sundays from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, starting June 22nd and ending July 13th, your child will learn popular songs from the Shrek movies. They'll master hits like "All Star" and "I'm a Believer" in a collaborative band setting.

Led by coaches Steve Burket and Amy Swanson, your child will develop teamwork, timing, and stage presence. This unique course culminates in a thrilling live performance on stage at the Fargo Street Fair on Friday, July 19th, at 3:30 PM!

This is an incredible chance for your child to showcase their talents, build confidence, and make unforgettable musical memories. Spaces are limited for personalized attention.

COACH: Steve Burket
Based in Fargo, ND, Steve is a versatile musician with over two decades of experience in both performance and music education. A graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead with a Bachelor of Music in jazz guitar studies, Steve has played with numerous bands across the Midwest.

JUNE 22ND COACH: Amy Swanson
A true rocker, Amy's Amy's favorite music to play is rock, grunge and punk. Amy has been an enthusiastic student for over 5 years, with a lot of focus on technique, theory, and ear training.   Amy is a problem solver, who enjoys figuring out the mechanics of a song and how to play it.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Info
  • Ages: 11-15 as of the start of the course.
  • Experience: Recommended 1-2 years minimum experience on your instrument (see "Instrument & Proficiency" below)
  • Instruments: ​Open to singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists, and others (strings, woodwind, brass, etc.).
  • Equipment: We'll have instruments and equipment for use, but feel free to bring your own.

Instrument & Proficiency
Participants must have a basic level of proficiency on one of the following core rock band instruments:
  • Vocals: Ability to sing in tune, hold a melody, and follow song structure. Some experience with harmony is a plus.
  • Guitar: Knowledge of basic open chords (e.g., G, C, D, Em, Am, E, A), comfortable switching between them, and playing simple strumming patterns.
  • Bass: Ability to play basic root-note bass lines, follow chord changes, and maintain steady rhythm.
  • Drums: Ability to play fundamental rock beats (e.g., 4/4 time, simple fills) and maintain consistent tempo.
  • Keyboard: Ability to play basic chords and simple melodic lines with both hands, following song structures.
  • Other Instruments: Ability to play fundamental notes and rhythms while maintaining a consistent tempo. 
This course is not designed for absolute beginners on an instrument, as the pace requires foundational skills.

Personal Equipment
Participants are required to bring their own instrument to all rehearsals and the performance.
  • Guitarists/Bassists: May bring their instrument and, if possible, a pedalboard. (Venue will have main amps for performance). Amped can provide a bass or guitar upon request.
  • Drummers: A drum kit will be provided at the rehearsal space and performance venue. Drummers are encouraged to bring their own sticks, and may bring their own snare drum, cymbals, or pedals if preferred.
  • Keyboardists: A keyboard will be supplied by Amped. Keyboardists may bring their own keyboard and any necessary pedals. (Venue will have a main keyboard amp/PA connection).
  • Vocalists: A PA system and microphones will be provided. Vocalists may bring their own microphone if preferred.
  • Other Instrumentalists: Must bring your own instrument and accessories as needed. Please let us know if you have questions or requests.

Practice Expectation
Participants are expected to practice their individual parts and songs outside of scheduled rehearsal times to be prepared for each session and the final performance. Worksheets and song materials will be provided to aid this practice.
